Clear messages, strong impact: the SAY principle of IBCS

Welcome back to our series on the International Business Communication Standards (IBCS). Today we dive deeper into the SAY principle of the SUCCESS formula. SAY, the third element of this formula, plays a key role in how clear and meaningful messages can be conveyed in reports and presentations.

What does SAY mean?

SAY stands for "express". Business communication is not just about presenting information, but also about conveying a clear and effective message. The SAY principle defines how this can be achieved through clear visualization and concise expression.

The importance of clear messages

In a world where information is abundant, it's crucial that your message is easy to understand. Clear messages help to simplify complex information and allow recipients to quickly grasp the key points. SAY helps to ensure that your presentations and reports are not only informative, but also effective.

How can SAY be used in practice?

1. clear visualizationsUse meaningful charts, graphs and tables to visualize your data. Make sure that the visualizations you choose support the message and do not appear overloaded.

2. meaningful headlinesUse clear and concise headlines that convey the main message immediately. Avoid vague or general wording.

3. focused contentFocus on the key aspects of your message and avoid non-essential details. SAY also means knowing what can be left out to maintain clarity.

4. clear labelingUse clear labels and markings so that your readers immediately understand what you are referring to. Avoid ambiguous or confusing markings.

Conclusion

The SAY principle is an essential building block for effective business communication. Clear messages attract attention and ensure that your information has the desired effect. In the next article, we will take a closer look at the fourth element of the SUCCESS formula, "CONDENSE".
